Careers in Engineering

Engineering careers are popular today because they are perceived as prestigious with higher salaries associated in this field. If you were an innovative individual, you would probably enjoy a position in this field. Like the nursing field, the engineering field has many positions and types available to choose from to start or expand your career in. There are more than 25 engineering specialties, which include chemical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering and many others.

Engineering is a based on mathematics and applied sciences which are used to develop solutions that assist in the manufacturing processes, systems, and economical structures of companies. Engineers, in some sense, are inventors. They dream up idea that they turn into reality and then process to see if they work. By using mathematics and sciences these innovative individuals from around the world, work on globally solving many problems. Engineers are directly responsible for creating new products and services that are in high demand by corporations worldwide; therefore, they command a fairly high salary.

Those who wish to be engineers need to posses the skills to follow through on things to the completion, they must be loyal, they must put the needs of others before themselves, they must be compassionate and sympathetic, and they must like interacting with other human beings. These same individuals must want to understand how things work, be able to apply hands on applications, be realistic and highly practical, and work independently as trouble-shooters.

The minimum requirement in the field of engineering is a bachelor's degree from university. A degree from university these days goes a long way, but you also need to understand physics, mathematics, and computer sciences if you expect to succeed in this field. College courses usually consist of algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry. The science portion consists of biology, physics, and chemistry. Computer applications and programming are also required.

The engineering course is heavy and intensive, so students commonly move into it after studying the sciences and mathematic course at an advanced level in high school. After graduating, any engineers pursue jobs in the various fields, but often find themselves taking additional studies to make it easier.

    Aerospace engineers are responsible for the research, design, drafting, and manufacturing of satellites, space vehicles, aircrafts, and missiles.
