Business Calculus consists of treating standard one variable calculus and its applications for the business students to assist them in comprehending a concept not cut in stone. This also incorporates other business applications and serves as an introduction to multivariable calculus. The entire process of understanding the concept of calculus alone is a major change for all math students. This represents the study of change as in slope, growth rate, velocity and other interesting ways we describe how one quantity changes in respect to another.
Many abstract thinking individuals have contributed to the concept and the development of calculus such as Archimedes, Newton, and Liebritz. Their collective mathematical equations have carved the path to a clearer understanding of all things possible. If not for the relentless dedication of these fine individuals we would not have such a well laid-out road map to refer to today. As a result we have two specific categories of business calculus that students and teachers alike follow over the many years. We have the differential calculus and the integral calculus. All theories and equations will fall into one or the other category, designed for closer observation of a controlled outcome.
Derivatives assist to compute rates of change, and integrals assist to calculate the accumulated results of that change. Business Calculus covers one-variable calculus and some multivariable calculus. This course stresses applications in business and economics, and the intent is to assist business students with the appropriate conceptual and computational mathematical background for future study. There are however prerequisites to make note of before making the important decision to involve one's self in this line of study. The incoming student must have a clear understanding of conceptual mathematics and have the ability to think in the abstract.
A few of the requirements that the student will have to master are College Algebra, Math for Business and Economics courses with a plausible grade average of C or higher. Calculus topics include the derivative, applications of derivatives, methods of finding derivatives, methods of integration, applications of integration, and the calculus of the exponential and logarithmic functions. Mathematicians and scientists were computing derivatives and integrals for a few centuries before anyone decided to make sure the methods used were on a consistent, logical base.
